Ages 3 through 6 years
The preschool program at Papillion Montessori at Shadow Lake nurtures a lifelong love of learning. The program promotes motivated, self-directed and engaged learners through carefully structured classroom environments prepared by certified Montessori teachers. Preschool teachers skillfully observe their students and closely guide them in the learning process. Student-centered learning is a hallmark of Papillion Montessori at Shadow Lake; we define our success by our students’ learning success.
Purposeful activities are designed to sustain uninterrupted, focused learning opportunities for students. Our teachers are well educated in child development and are Montessori trained. This knowledge is at the heart of an inclusive classroom experience that is responsive to diverse learners. As a result, our students are curious, self-confident and critical thinkers who are becoming socially aware. They are guided to respect individual differences, value partnership, seek cooperative approaches to problem solving and actively participate in taking care of their classroom environment and community.
The Primary classroom environments are organized into the basic Montessori curriculum areas: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language Arts, Math and Cultural Studies. Each classroom includes educational materials for geography, social studies, science, art and foreign language instruction in Spanish. Students also have an extensive study in the fine arts and performing arts.
“Our care of the children should be governed not by the desire to ‘make them learn things’, but by the endeavor always to keep burning within them the light which is called intelligence.”
– Maria Montessori
Age 18 months to 3 years
Papillion Montessori at Shadow Lake is a carefully structured, toddler sized environment set up to facilitate the young child’s self-mastery. Age appropriate materials and activities are designed for the toddler’s self-development, growing independence and natural curiosity. Children are skillfully and closely guided in the learning process.
Our dedicated and knowledgeable teachers are well educated in child development and are certified with the American Montessori Society. We help create learning opportunities where the child may engage all of her/his senses to investigate the environment. The activities are designed to improve children’s abilities to concentrate, enhance coordination and self-care skills. During this sensitive learning period, teachers facilitate and support the child’s emerging use of language and sense of social responsibility.
“The development of the child during the first three years after birth is unequaled in intensity and importance by any period that precedes or follows in the whole life of the child.”
